Abstrak

Heart disease and hypertension are major health problems in Kunden Village, Karanganom District, Klaten Regency, with hypertension prevalence exceeding 30% of the population. Limited community knowledge about healthy dietary patterns and minimal utilization of nutritious local food were the primary challenges. This community service activity aimed to provide education to PKK members regarding the benefits of processed catfish (Clarias sp.) for heart health. Activities were carried out through health counseling on heart disease and hypertension, as well as socialization of three low-sodium catfish-based processed products: catfish nuggets, catfish cookies, and catfish dimsum. Methods employed included interactive lectures, group discussions, and Focus Group Discussion (FGD). Catfish is known to be rich in omega-3 fatty acids (EPA and DHA), potassium, and low in sodium, which has been scientifically proven to support cardiovascular health. The outcomes of this activity showed that participants gained knowledge about the importance of catfish-based food consumption as a preventive measure against heart disease and hypertension, as well as familiarity with various catfish preparations that are easy to make using affordable local ingredients.
